Wales Green Party leader Anthony Slaughter

Anthony Slaughter has been re-elected as the leader of the Wales Green Party following a ballot of party members. Winning 63% of the vote, Slaughter defeated the only challenger for the position Debra Cooper.

Slaughter was first elected as leader of the Wales Green Party in 2018. He was re-elected in 2021.

Speaking after the results were announced Anthony Slaughter said: “I am proud and excited to have been re-elected for a further term as Wales Green Party leader

“I’m looking forward to working with our activists and members across Wales to grow the party and breakthrough into the Senedd. Our historic second place in Cardiff South & Penarth at the general election shows we are on the cusp of achieving this.

Following a ballot of members Wales Green Party has announced that Anthony Slaughter has been re-elected for a third term as the party’s leader. The party has also elected two co-deputy leaders Philip Davies and Linda Rogers.

Alongside the leadership election, members also elected two deputy leaders. Phillip Davies, who was appointed to one of the deputy leader posts was formally elected in the ballot, alongside Linda Rogers.

Speaking following the announcement of results, Davies said: “I’m pleased to be elected by members as one of the Deputy Leaders of Wales Green Party. I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard with the rest of the team to grow the party in all communities across Cymru.

“The low turnout in the last Westminster election shows the people of Cymru are fed up of the business as usual parties, and are looking for a positive alternative. We can and we will make a breakthrough at the Senedd elections in 2026 and offer that positive vision of a better future for all.”

Rogers said: “I am excited to be working with the progressive forces in the Wales Green Party. In these rapidly changing and tumultuous times, I look forward to working with our communities to make a future fit for our young people, here and around the world.”

Slaughter said of the deputy leadership election: “I want to congratulate Philip Davies and Linda Rogers on their election as deputy leaders. Together they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the leadership team and will play a crucial role in our 2026 Senedd campaign.”

Davies and Roger were elected unopposed.

Turnout in the leadership contest was low. Of the 2006 Wales Green Party members, just 299 voted – around 15 per cent.
